Hagar is a biblical figure mentioned in the Old Testament in the book of Genesis. She was a slave girl who was given to Sarah, the wife of Abraham, to bear a child as Sarah was unable to have children. Hagar had a son with Abraham, named Ishmael, and later became an ancestor of the Arab people. According to the biblical account, she was cast out by Sarah and forced to flee into the wilderness but was later rescued by an angel who promised her that her descendants would become a great nation.
