Who was Asher?

Asher is the eighth son of Jacob and Leah in the Bible, and one of the twelve tribes of Israel. According to the Book of Genesis, Asher was born in Padan-Aram, and later lived in Canaan. He is described as a fruitful bough, yielding strong and rich oil, and representing a tribe known for their wealth and prosperity. The tribe of Asher is associated with the northern region of present-day Israel, along the Mediterranean coast. The descendants of Asher are said to have been skilled craftsmen and traders, and played a significant role in the formation of the ancient Kingdom of Israel.
